MORE INFO:
NC Horse Council to host Trail Ride & 1st Super Trail Horse Challenge! The Trail Ride will be held on May 19th 2007 at Leatherwood Mountains in Ferguson, North Carolina. Participants are encouraged to come for the whole weekend to camp and ride. There will be two self guided ribbon trials so that you can decide how long you want ride and gage how experienced and in shape your horses is. For you die-hard riders, you can take both loops. The trail ride will start early Saturday morning, in the afternoon there will be shopping and some educational presentations and a trails meeting to enjoy. Dinner will be served around 6PM and then we will be giving out door prizes followed by some live musical entertainment. The price for the trail ride, $30 for current NCHC Members and $40 for non-members, includes a ride t-shirt, goody bag, ticket for door prizes, dinner and entertainment.
Sunday morning May 20th, 2007 will start the Super Trail Horse Challenge. A trophy belt buckle will be given to the winner and ribbons for fifteen places. The trail course will be set up using natural and man made obstacles on the grounds of Leatherwood. This is not a race, the course is designed to be safe and not to scare the horses but show off how well broke and what good manners your trail mount has. Participants are judged on completing the obstacles and extra points can be earned by displaying horsemanship and degrees of difficulty. Some examples of obstacles are, water crossing, slicker, rope gate, stepping over poles, tarps and bushes. An extra task will be done at the end to earn bonus points. The cost to enter the Super Trail Horse Challenge is $20 per horse/rider team. Leatherwood offers a full facility with a round pen, out door and covered arena, barn, wash stalls, tack room and a nice breakfast/lunch restaurant with-in walking distance of the barn. The accommodations include a wonderful camping area near a rushing creek or you can rent a secluded cabin with spectacular views and a hot tub. Day-drive in riders are also welcome for a parking charge of $10 per trailer.
There is a limit of 150 riders so get your applications in early! As of today I have 52 Trail Riders signed up and 20 in the Super Trail Ride Challenge.
Not a rider or coming with your family? You can join in the fun by coming for the day and signing up for dinner with the group!
Money raised from the ride will go to equestrian trail projects in North Carolina. NCHC wants to get to meet more of North Carolina’s trail users.
T-shirt and other vendor sponsorships are still available!
