Membership Information
North Carolina Horse Council meetings are open and all horse owners in North Carolina are invited to attend. We encourage all horse owners' participation and input in the industry. Because of the costs associated with providing newsletters and other designated mailings, we provide a membership category with corresponding dues for those who wish to be put on the mailing list.
These are categorized as:
Student/Junior ($6)
Individual with out in-excess liability insurance ($12)
Individual with in-excess liability insurance ($37)
Association ($50 <100 Members / $100 >100 Members)
Lifetime Membership ($360)
Life members can purchase insurance for an additional ($25) per year.
Corporate memberships at different rates are available as well.
INSURANCE F.A.Q.s: Frequently asked questions about the Personal Excess Liability Insurance that NCHC members can purchase with their membership from Equisure, INC.
* WHEN does my personal excess insurance with Equisure start and end? COVERAGE starts when your membership is approved and the premium is paid to Equisure. Coverage ends December 31st of each year.
* HOW CAN I get a copy of the policy? WHEN you renew or join the NCHC and take the insurance, you will receive a copy of the policy summary in your new member packet. If you didn't get one or have misplaced it, please call the NCHC office or email us and we can send you another.
* HOW would this insurance apply if I have homeowners insurance? THIS POLICY is excess over any other valid and collectible insurance. If you have primary insurance coverage this policy would be in excess over that. If you don't this policy would become primary.
* I AM A TRAINER and/or run a horse breeding or boarding operation, do I have coverage? NO. Coverage for businesses and business related activities are excluded.
* IF MY HORSE IS BOARDED away from my residence, do I have coverage? YES! You are covered for equine related incidences away from your residence.
* IF I LEND MY HORSE for someone else to ride am I covered? YES! You are covered for bodily injury and/or property damage for an equine related incident that you are held legally liable for.
* IS MY HORSE covered if it dies? NO. This policy does not provide animal mortality coverage.
* CAN I INCREASE the limites provided by this policy? NO. This is a group policy with pre-set limits.
* I FELL OFF MY HORSE and broke my arm, what kind of coverage do I have for this? NONE. This is not a medical insurance policy. You would have to have your own health/medical insurance for that.
* WHAT LIMITS are provided by this policy? THE LIMIT provided under this policy is per household and is shared by all members of the same residence. They are $1,000,000 aggregate and $1,000,000 per occurance.
* CAN I ADD an additional insured to this policy? This product does not allow additions of additional insureds.
* What should I do if I have a claim? 1. Write down all the details about the incident while they are fresh in your mind. 2. Get the names and phone numbers for any witnesses. 3. Do not admit fault or make any monetary payment. 4. Contact Equisure at 800-752-2472.

Facts about the North Carolina Horse Industry
In 1955 there were 61,000 horses in North Carolina. Today that number has more than tripled to an estimated 225,000. The horse industry in North Carolina is valued at more than $500 million annually.
There are three major Horse Complexes (Raleigh, Asheville, Williamston) that host horse events every year.
Horse projects are the leading special interest projects in the N.C. 4-H program. All major breeds are represented in North Carolina and many boast of National and World Championships.
There are well over 400 horse shows held in the state each year. Moreover, large trail rides, clinics, and field days are held every week across the state. The North Carolina State Fair Horse Show is one of the largest shows in the nation.
