Trail Certification Course - September 25th

Don't miss the opportunity to attend one of the nationally recognized courses for individuals (both professional and volunteer) to receive certification in multi-use trail design, construction, and maintenance, as well as developing expertise in the leadership of trail work crews. The course consists of both interactive classroom sessions and practical field application of the classroom concepts. Emphasis will be placed on covering the latest advances in trail design and construction to minimize erosion, user impact, and user conflicts, along with techniques for long-term sustainability and ease of maintenance.

The Trail Master Certification Courses are being held in two North Carolina locations in 2008. The courses are sponsored by the North Carolina Horse Council and are funded through a grant from the North Carolina Recreational Trails Program. Thanks to this generous education grant, much of the $300/person tuition has been covered. Graduates of the course will be encouraged to share their trail building skills and expertise with the local trail groups and land managers in their area in the development and maintenance of equestrian, biking, and/or hiking trails.

Western North Carolina

Dates: September 25-28, 2008 (Thursday through Sunday)

Location: South Mountain State Park, Connelly Springs, NC (between Hickory and Morganton, NC)

Eastern North Carolina

Dates: November 13-16, 2008 (Thursday through Sunday)

Location: Medoc Mountain State Park, Hollister, NC (northwest of Rocky Mount, NC)

Time: Four days total: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. each day

Cost (for each course): $100 per person
($90 per person for NCHC members - join now and receive the discount)

Cost includes:
lunch and snacks each day
classroom materials
trail work tools for use during the course
certificate of completion
