Facts about the North Carolina Horse Industry

In 1955 there were 61,000 horses in North Carolina. Today that number has more than tripled to an estimated 225,000. The horse industry in North Carolina is valued at more than $500 million annually.

There are three major Horse Complexes (Raleigh, Asheville, Williamston) that host horse events every year.

Horse projects are the leading special interest projects in the N.C. 4-H program. All major breeds are represented in North Carolina and many boast of National and World Championships.

There are well over 400 horse shows held in the state each year. Moreover, large trail rides, clinics, and field days are held every week across the state. The North Carolina State Fair Horse Show is one of the largest shows in the nation.
